Katappa (Satyaraj) continues to say his story of how he killed Baahubali (Prabhas)...

 After winning from Kalkeya, in Mahishmati, Amarendra Bahubali is declared the future king and Bhallal Dev (Rana Daggubati) is declared the general.  Even before the coronation takes place, Amarendra's mother Sivagami (Ramya Krishnan) starts looking for a bride for him.  She asks Amarendra and Katappa to visit it to understand the state of the empire and its people.

Amarendra falls in love with Devasena (Anushka Shetty), a princess of the Kuntal kingdom and her king's sister.  Bhallal learns that Amarendra has fallen in love with Devasena.  He then tells Sivagami that he wants to marry Devasena.  Sivagami does not know that Amarendra is in love with Devasena, so she promises to get him married to Devasena.

 When Sivagami sends a marriage proposal to Kuntal kingdom, the messenger writes the proposal as written by a proud person.  Devasena refuses this marriage proposal with strong words.  When Sivagami gets her answer, she in anger orders Devasena to be taken captive.

 The Kuntal kingdom gets attacked by the cages.  Amarendra foils the attack with the help of Devasena's brother Kumar Verma and saves Kuntal.  Amarendra tells him who he is and tries to allay the fear of Sivagami's anger and persuade her to be his bride.

 When he reaches Mahismati, he discovers a misunderstanding.  Sivagami tells him to choose either the throne or Devasena.  He chooses Devasena.  Because of this, Bhallal is made the king there and Amarendra is the commander but still people consider him as the king.


For Devasena's baby shower, Amarendra was discharged by Bhallal from his military duties, so that he could live with his wife.  At the same time, Devasena speaks out against Raja Bhallal's manipulation and questions Sivagami's silence.  This leads to a quarrel and both of them are thrown out of the palace.  They both start living happily among people outside, but Bhallal again provokes Sivagami that Amarendra wants to kill him and also says that if he takes direct action a civil war may start.  So Sivagami tells her serving servant Katappa that she is in trouble and has to kill Amarendra.

 At the behest of Sivagami, Katappa attacked Amarendra's back with deceit and killed him.

 Katappa then comes and informs Sivagami that Amarendra Bahubali has died.  Devasena also comes there with her child Mahendra Bahubali and she also comes to know about this.  Sivagami tells the bewildered crowd outside the palace that Amarendra is dead and now his son Mahendra Bahubali (Prabhas) will be the new king.

 After this, Bhallal and his men together try to capture Devasena and his child and put him in prison.  Devasena hands over her child to Sivagami who manages to escape, but Devasena is unable to save herself.  He is imprisoned.


Years later, a fierce battle ensues between Mahendra Bahubali, son of Bhallaldev and Amarendra Bahubali, and Bhallaladeva is defeated in this battle.

 Mahendra is crowned Bahubali and becomes the new king of Mahismati.
