                    PUSHPA:THE RISE

Pushpa Raj, a clan, volunteers for the smuggling of Red Sandelwood, a rare wood that grows only in the Seshachalam Hills of Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh.  When DSP Govindappa raids them in the forest, Pushpa cleverly hides the stock and takes it back, gaining the confidence of his employer, Konda Reddy.  With the help of new ideas for smuggling red sandalwood, Pushpa quickly rises through the ranks and becomes Konda Reddy's partner in the red sandalwood smuggling network.

Mangalam Srinu, a ruthless trader managing the red sandalwood syndicate, entrusts Konda Reddy with the task of securing his 200 tonnes of stock.  Konda's younger brother, Jolly Reddy, is deemed incompetent, Pushpa is given the task.  However, Govindappa tracks down their location and tries to raid.  To move the stock quickly, Pushpa throws all the wooden logs into the adjacent river, sending his partner Keshav to bribe the officials and tie the river downstream.  Since all the stock has been saved from confiscation, Srinu and Konda are relieved.  At a party, Pushpa hears that Srinu is selling wood at a much higher rate than what they paid for.  Pushpa asks Konda to demand hid fair share, but backing off going against Srinu seems risky.  Meanwhile, Pushpa meets Srivalli and immediately falls in love with her.  On the day of their engagement, her half-brother interrupts the ceremony and denies Pushpa's descent from his dead father, while his mother is injured in the ensuing scuffle.  This enrages Pushpa which prompts her to rise higher in life.  The next day, Pushpa smuggles wood directly to Chennai and meets Srinu from whom he demands ₹1 crore per tonne as his share.  Srinu refuses and his men attack him but Pushpa overpowers them.  Pushpa then goes to Chennai himself and makes a deal to sell the wood at ₹1.5 crore per tonne, which Konda and Pushpa agree to share equally.

Jolly, being a feminist, blackmails Srivalli to take her father captive and spend a night with him.  Knowing this, an enraged Pushpa attacks Jolly, leaving her temporarily paralyzed.  Konda concludes that Pushpa is responsible for her brother's condition and takes him to a secluded place in the forest to kill him.  However, Srinu's men ambush them, giving Pushpa a chance to escape and counterattack.  Konda is killed in the ambush but Pushpa saves Konda's brother Jakka Reddy.  He also captures Srinu's brother-in-law and kills him.  Later, MP Bhumireddy Siddappa Naidu arranges a ceasefire, where Pushpa exposes Srinu's strategy which was cheating the syndicate with low prices.  Naidu then appoints Pushpa to manage their syndicate.  After 6 months Pushpa becomes an influential person.  Due to Srinu's inability to avenge his brother-in-law, his wife Dakshinayini strangled him.

While Pushpa is at his peak, a ruthless police officer Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat takes over as the SP of the district.  Pushpa usually meets him and offers him a bribe of ₹1 crore.  However, Shekhawat threatens Pushpa and his men by saying that they are missing a thing.  He ridicules Pushpa for his vanity and threatens to shoot his hand if Pushpa does not open his fingers.  Horrified, Pushpa respectfully refers to him as "Sir", to which Shekhawat replies that he was missing.  Since then Pushpa becomes under Shekhawat.  A few days later, on the night of Pushpa's wedding, Pushpa and Shekhawat drink wine together at the top of a hill.  Expressing contempt at how he was ridiculed in their first meeting, Pushpa takes Shekhawat's revolver and shoots himself in his hand.  He then threatens Shekhawat to take off his clothes while Pushpa does the same.  Pushpa tells that his statues is still the same whereas Shekhawat is nothing without his police uniform, even his dog will not recognize him when he is naked.  Pushpa proceeds for his wedding while Shekhawat goes to his house naked.  As predicted, his dog barks at him.  Enraged, he kills the dog and burns the bribe money.
